Greetings and Welcome! I am George Kosinski, formerly a British Architect, born in Scotland and raised in the beautiful English Lake District, where I practiced in Vernacular Architecture from 1978 to 1991, before embarking on a fulltime career as a watercolour artist based in Jerusalem from 1991 – 2000. A sojourner at heart, I traveled throughout Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Sinai & Egypt, immersed in hospitality and communicating my affection for historic buildings and pristine landscapes through picture language, easily understood across borders. This has been a journey in watercolours - unpredictable, yet rooted in different ways.
From 2002 until 2011, I have lived in the Appalachian mountains, contrasting with the desert places due to an abundance of rainwater, which profoundly influenced the colours of my pallete. I then moved to the Lowlands of the coastal region of South Carolina, enjoying Brookgreen Gardens and remnants of old plantations rich in wildlife. Steeped in history, there is a pull-back to the old country while looking at historic buildings and spending a three month residency at Hobcaw Barony. Not being enamoured with settling down, I have finally returned to Ashe Co in the Blue Ridge Mountains, very close to Grayson Highlands, the highest part of Virginia. Here, I can peacefully continue studies of ancient creeks, while still painting fast disappearing remants of the Near East, where the skills of masonry and geometric designs are long gone.
About 120 watercolours have been selected for this website, from a collection of over 800 completed over the last 22 years. Explore the various pages here and savour remnants, rich in detail, deep in history. Painting provides us with a means to see and allowing others to share.
Motivated by God's gracious life and love towards all creation, across all separating boundaries, I hope to continue visiting, sojourning and observing, mindful of these words of Jesus;
"The wind blows wherever it wishes; you hear the sound it makes.
but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going.
It is like that with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
